Extension Takedown - How I avoid Damage, Matting, and Tangles

After wearing extensions for an extended period of time you will have buildup and shed hair that will need to be removed. If you do not do this properly you are likely to experience excessive matting and even damage to your hair.

It is best to remove the shedding before you wash your hair. It is wise to have a spray bottle on hand with a little conditioner to help aid in detangling.

You can use a comb, a denman brush, or whatever you have on hand. The comb I used can be found at Sallys, and I found it extremely helpful in removing the buildup at the base as well. It is my favorite comb to use for this.

As I detangled I cut significant amounts of hair off of each section. At this time my hair is extremely uneven but its ok. I do not want to cut it all off because I wash to be able to still put my hair into a ponytail at least.

I am currently wearing a sock bun and am contemplating my next hairstyle.

Thinking Out Loud Thursday - TOLT *14*

I know its late.. sorry :)

So this TOLT I thought it would be cool to post things I used to do and loved that I kinda forgot about over the years.
  • Adding oil and honey to every single conditioner I owned to make it better.
  • Hot oil treatments or HOTs every week
  • Wash & goes using a honey rinse to bring out the curls
  • Wash & goes period.. lol
  • Clear rinses. I did do one recently, but it has been years since the last time I did one.
  • I want to try rinses in different colors as well. :)
  • Following a schedule for my hair. Monthly shampoo, 2x weekly DC, Cowash 3x a week, Aphogee 2 step every 3-4 months.
  • Using actual eggs in my conditioners. lol Havent done that in years!
  • French braid styles weekly. This I will be revisiting often over the next few months.
  • Buns and french roll type protective styles. I used to love my french rolls!

  • OMG!! My first eBook is being published as wee speak!! Ahhhhh!!! Amazon has a funny policy, I dont know how this is all going to work just yet being that this is my first eBook and all.

Hair Diary *10* - Update & Braid Refresh

A month and a half later and I have a ton of new growth. I took out the braids on the side last week because they were way too fuzzy. I detangled my hair, then washed and deep conditioned all of it, for a few hours.

Then I took a week to put my braids back in!
LOL
Anyways, I have slacked on my coffee and sulfur oil over the past 2 weeks, but I have began using the sulfur oil again as of yesterday.

Again, its been a little over a month and I think the amount of growth I have is awesome for that amount of time!

At this point, I am not going to take shaving my head off of the table. However, I am going to try and see how well I can keep the hair up and just cut it as it grows. This will be a big challenge for me if I can actually pull it off and still have decent looking hair.

Its so funny that when I see my hair, I immediately go, "ughhh... This is BS! It looks horrible!!". But I recorded a vid in Nov. of me washing my hair just to see what it really looked like and also for comparison later and my hair really does not look that bad!!

I was actually really surprised how good it looked. But the thing is, since I am used to my hair being super thick from root to tip, and that the thinness is due to shedding and breakage, I am just really unhappy with my hair right now.

I hate setbacks and that is what is eating me up the most.

But we all have setbacks and I am rambling, so I am going to just leave it with this.

My biggest challenge with my hair this year will be, getting past this setback, growing the hair back out the way I want it to be, and keeping consistent.

2013 should be a great year for me!! :)

NOTD - Creamy Pearl @Essie Manicure

After a good 3 months of consistently wearing my acrylics it was time to take them off. To remove them I filed them down instead of soaking them off, because soaking is a little time consuming.

I then buffed my natural nails smooth with a fine turtle board so that they would be ready to take the polish.

I used these 3 Essie nail polishes. The first one is a strengthening base coat which I applied generously because after so long in acrylics my nails were very soft and weak.

I used 2 coats of the next one. I do not know what it is called but it is a sheer creamy color which I love. you can see above that even with 2 coats it is very sheer.

Lastly I used 1 coat of the last. This one is called Sheer Pearlfection. I LOVE this color! It gives the nail  a beautiful pearl finish. I like putting these types of polishes on top of others for that extra kick.

I'm going to try to avoid acrylics for a little while, because I cant type with them on and over time they are not very good for the natural nail.

Essie polishes have become my favorite polishes! Even though they are a little expensive they have been the only polishes I can wear for a few days without any chipping! Everything else I have tried chips within a few hours!

*sigh*
